HEMEROCALLIS
These are commonly called day lilies – don’t be deceived though. Yes, each individual bud opens for one day BUT these tough plants just keep pushing out more buds to keep a great display going in your garden. They like a sunny, well drained position with a minimum of a half day of sunlight. If you have really hot condition you could mulch them to save water and weeding. When they’ve finished flowering remove the stalks and any dying leaves from the plants. I find combing them with your fingers works well to get the evergreen varieties looking good again in the spring before lots of fresh growth comes on before flowering. If your soil get dry and hot over the blooming period do mulch them and a good drink once or twice a week will enhance their flowering. But do nothing except plants these babies and they will reward you.
