Iconic New Zealand tree. Looks tropical - but tough as and easy to grow in any position from coastal to swampy, dry and exposed.
Can grow to around 8 metres - among the tallest 'lily' in the world.
Large sprays of fragrant creamy flowers late spring and summer followed by white-blue berries.
Don't be put off by complaints of them shedding their old leaves onto lawns. Plant these in a situation away from the lawn and enjoy them or enjoy the exercise of picking them up before you mow like we do at our holiday home!!
