Fuchsia procumbens
A favourite of mine, this native fuchsia is the only one in the world that holds its flower upright. Forms low mounds and trails of mid green, small leaves and from spring onward bears the cutest upright, yellow and gold flowers which are chock full of glistening nectar. The protruding stamens are yellow and red with striking intense blue pollen and the plant often has the lovely red berries along with the flowers. It’s a fascinating little plant which deserves a place in every garden. In areas of hard frost the plant may be cut back over winter but will quickly re-grow in spring. It prefers semi-shade and grows to about 15cm high and can spread to up to 2m but easily trimmed back.
