Hyacinth Purple Sensation
Lovely deep reddish-purple fragrant flowers in spring. Flowers about 25cm tall
Hyacinths
These beauties are fragrant and do well in well drained garden soil in sun or part shade. Add in a little bulb food and/or compost before planting. Plant in the autumn around 10cm deep and about 8cm apart. Lovely in groups of 3 or 5. When they finish flowering cut off the old flower spikes to help bulb growth. DON’T cut off the leaves!
Growing in Hyacinth Vase - see our other listings
Or try growing them in a hyacinth vase. To do this chill bulb in the vege drawer of your fridge for at least 5 weeks (keep away from edible produce). Fill the special hyacinth vase with water to just below the upper bowl where you place the bulb (pointy end up). Put it on a bright windowsill, turning it a little daily to keep it growing straight up. Periodically change water and keep level at base. Well worth trying!
